Unlocking the Power of Resilience: Harnessing the Innate Desire for Growth and Sustaining Effective Habits for Leaders
I believe we are all born with an innate desire to live our best life. How we are nurtured and the influences we encounter as we grow, all directly impact our belief in ourselves. If we grow up in an environment where we are told and reminded, we can accomplish great things, we not only believe it, but it also imprints on our soul. It becomes part of who we are.
5 Intentional Ways to Shift Your Thinking and Improve Your Mental Wellbeing
Probably like many of you, the new year brings thoughts of “what I can do differently this year?” 2023 is no exception. After giving it quite a bit of thought, I come up with 5 ways to positively impact my life and stretch me outside of my comfort zone. These ideas might even allow me to positively impact others. Unlike New Year’s Resolutions which few people ever succeed at, I’m confident intentions will easily be new habits that stick!
So here are my 5 Monthly Intentions for 2023!
DAY 1 - CREATING SMART GOALS FOR THE NEW YEAR
There is an abundance of advice for this time of year for those who are looking to make resolutions and changes to their life. And quite a bit of it is good. But if you’re looking to set goals for the New Year I would encourage you to evaluate and plan. Such as setting specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals for different areas of your life, creating a plan to achieve those goals, identifying and overcoming limiting beliefs, focusing on self-care and self-improvement, developing a positive mindset, and creating a support system of friends, family, and professionals. I would also encourage you to reflect on your past experiences and lessons learned and think about how you can apply them to the present and future.
DAY 2 - FINDING SELF-CARE IN THE NEW YEAR
Self-care is important because it helps to promote physical and emotional well-being, and can contribute to overall happiness and satisfaction in life. It can also help to reduce stress and anxiety, improve mood, and boost self-esteem and self-confidence. Additionally, self-care can improve overall health and well-being by helping to prevent burnout, improve sleep, and reduce the risk of illness and disease.
DAY 3 - ADVICE ON LOOKING AT JOB CHANGE IN THE NEW YEAR
It may be a good time to find a new job if you are no longer fulfilled or satisfied with your current position. Maybe you have outgrown your current role, or you are not being challenged enough. Or perhaps you have been in your current job for a while and you're ready for a change of pace and a new set of responsibilities.
DAY 4 - DREAMING OF VACATION
According to the U.S. Travel Association, the numbers were staggering in 2020; Americans left more than 33% of their paid time off on the table. That’s about five days of earned vacation time per American wasted. Even though six in ten of us feel we desperately need a vacation.
DAY 5 - High Five!
Time to celebrate the progress you have made over the past five days as we work towards ending 2022 on a high note. Let’s review this week’s coaching challenges.
DAY 6 - REST AND REFLECT
Rest also plays a crucial role in maintaining overall physical and mental health. Lack of sleep can lead to a variety of negative consequences, such as fatigue, irritability, mood swings, depression, and a weakened immune system. It can also affect cognitive function, including memory, attention, and decision-making.
DAY 7 - HOW TO BUILD BETTER CO-WORKING RELATIONSHIPS IN THE NEW YEAR
Establishing good relationships with co-workers is important because it can lead to a more positive and productive work environment. Good relationships with co-workers can lead to better communication and collaboration, which can result in better problem-solving and decision-making. Additionally, good relationships with co-workers can lead to greater job satisfaction, which can lead to higher morale and lower turnover rates. Furthermore, having a good relationship with coworkers can be beneficial for one's career in the long run, as it can lead to more opportunities for professional development, and potential for networking, mentoring, and recommendation.
DAY 8 - IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR – TO CREATE GREAT MEMORIES
We’re rounding the bend to the holidays and the end of the year. It always conjures up excitement, anticipation, and for me, the longing that the time go slowly for the next several days so I can savor moments with my family.
DAY 9 - THERE’S ONLY ONE OF YOU
What is it that makes us compare ourselves to others? I don’t know anyone who doesn’t do it. Some more than others. But really, why do we do it? To make ourselves feel better because we are in a better situation than someone else. Or do we belittle ourselves when we don’t feel that we measure up? We feel envy or jealousy if someone “seems” to be in a better position than us. Or even worse, we tell ourselves we’re superior to them.
DAY 10 - High Five!
Good Morning! There are only 10 days left in 2022 and I hope you’re following along as we countdown the final 100 days of 2022 using daily coaching challenges to help you finish strong - you can join us anytime. As you take the time to review the past several days, congratulate yourself on any of the coaching tips you’ve adopted. These are all meant to support you in finishing 2022 strong! While change can be hard, it can also be very rewarding. Time to give yourself a high five!
DAY 11 - BOOK RECOMMENDATION – HAVE A LITTLE FAITH BY MITCH ALBOM
Have A Little Faith is a remarkable, true story. Asked to write the eulogy for his childhood Rabbi, Albom embarked on a journey that spanned eight years. Realizing he knew very little about the Rabbi personally, Albom set out to get to know the man better, seeking to understand who he was, his beliefs, his fears, and the challenges he faced. Quite by accident, Albom also crosses paths with a Detroit pastor, a man who ministers in a dilapidated church in an even more run-down neighborhood. The pastor, a former convict, and drug dealer self-describes himself as “someone who broke every commandment.”
DAY 12 - WHAT SEASON ARE YOU IN?
The idea of being in different seasons of life has become a very mainstream concept. It wasn’t until recently that I put any thought into what it means. I kind of like the analogy. The idea of seasons in life dates back to biblical times, a way of representing a person’s focus and needs based on where they were in their lives.
DAY 13 - HAPPY HANUKKAH
I was raised Catholic, including many years of Catholic school. I grew up knowing only the very basic ideals of the Jewish faith. It wasn’t until much later in life, that I developed a deeper understanding of the importance the Jewish traditions had in the Hanukkah celebration.
DAY 14 - IS IT TIME TO HIRE A COACH?
Are you feeling uncertain about your company’s future?
Are you experiencing difficulty in a time of transition?
Do you need better ways to align with your mission?
Are these questions or similar concerns popping up in your mind more often as we approach 2023? I encourage you not to face these alone. A business coach, whether it be myself or someone else, is trained to come alongside you and work through your obstacles.
DAY 15 - High Five!
Time to celebrate the progress you have made over the past five days as we work towards ending 2022 on a high note. Let’s review this week’s coaching challenges.
DAY 16 - HELP ME HELP YOU!
Sometimes we need a little encouragement on how to go about taking the first steps to creating the life we want. Or maybe we can nudge someone in our lives who could use a gentle push. Creating time and space to start writing your plan is the beginning. If it's only something you think about, it’s a dream. Writing it down is a plan!
DAY 17 - I CAN SLEEP THROUGH A STORM
What things can you do this coming year to prepare for a possible storm? Stress and worry take their toll on us when we’re caught off guard and unsure of how to navigate a challenge. What if you committed to being prepared for those potential issues? Could you sleep through a storm knowing that everything is cared for?
DAY 18 - 3 THINGS TO REMEMBER DURING THE HOLIDAYS
The older I get the quicker the holidays seem to appear. This is the time of year when I want time to slow down so I can savor everything. Preparations, decorating, thinking of the perfect gifts for the people I love…for me, it’s even more fun than the actual holiday. This year is no exception for the excitement or the speed at which it’s coming. So as I remind myself of how to approach these busy days, I will share it with you:
